Yarl’s Wood is divided into four residency units:  Avocet, Dove and Bunting, for our single ladies and Crane for our adult families.  We do not house children at Yarl’s Wood.

Bunting, our induction unit, consists of mainly single rooms, whereas Avocet and Dove accommodate residents in twin bedrooms.

The Crane unit is made up of double rooms with internal connecting doors.  Families with more than two members share connecting rooms with the internal doors unlocked to enable them to be together in one suite.

Residents are able to smoke in designated bedrooms and can request these during the arrival process.  We make every effort to ensure that non-smokers do not share with smokers.

All of our bedrooms have been tastefully decorated with floral curtains and wooden furniture.  Each contains single beds, a desk, lockable wardrobes, TV/DVD and Freeview TV.  Every room has an en suite wet room and toilet.

All bedroom doors have locks to allow our residents to secure their belongings and also to lock themselves into their rooms should they wish to do so.  Staff hold a master key to open doors in case of emergency or loss of personal keys but they do not have the ability to lock residents into their rooms.  There is no cellular accommodation of any kind in Yarl’s Wood, nor are any of our windows barred.  Our units are designed to offer our residents maximum security and safety while in our care, to which they hold the key.
