Access to a Lawyer

Residents at Yarl’s Wood have access to free legal advice every Tuesday and Thursday.  This service is provided by the Legal Service Commission.  All appointment bookings for this service are made via the Central Library.

In addition, a comprehensive list of contact details of lawyers specialising in Immigration Law is available to all residents in the Central Library and can be accessed during association time each day.  Association time runs from 10.00-12.00, 14.00-17.00 and 19.00-21.00 each day.

Access to a Lawyer

This list is provided by the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) and contains the names, contact details and a list of the different languages spoken by the various firms.  It also includes information on those who offer Legal Aid.

Legal Aid provides financial assistance to those in need of legal advice.  Eligibility for receiving Legal Aid depends on a number of factors including:

  • the type of legal problem
  • the individual’s income (how much they earn) and how much capital (money, property, belongings) he or she has
  • whether there is a reasonable chance of winning the case and whether it is worth the time and money needed to win
