The health of our residents is of utmost importance to us at Yarl’s Wood.  Therefore, we work alongside G4S to put in place a highly skilled team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and allied health professionals to provide a comprehensive primary care service for all of our residents.

Our Aim

Our aim is to provide the best care for all of our residents during their stay at Yarl’s Wood and to help our residents to better understand their own health needs.  As part of this goal we run a twice-yearly health fair for all of our residents where representatives from Serco Health, NHS Bedfordshire and local community services promote health, well-being and health education We also encourage students to undertake placements within our healthcare facility. This provides essential placement resources for the colleges and also provides the residents of Yarl’s Wood with additional support.  We are pleased to have both student nurses and student counsellors forming part of our team.

Our dedicated team of health professionals put the needs of our residents at the very heart of the care they provide.  They achieve this by working closely with both the resident and previous care providers from the community.  Our service delivery standards are monitored and maintained through regular clinical governance meetings onsite and the development of National Clinical Governance strategies.

We have developed good relationships with the NHS through our Health Partnership Board and by formulating pathways into secondary care services we have been successful in ensuring that any healthcare needs that cannot be directly addressed at Yarl’s Wood are addressed locally, without the need for extensive waiting periods.
