Yarl’s Wood Celebrate the Royal Wedding

On 29 April 2011 Yarl’s Wood IRC joined in to celebrate the Royal Wedding of the Year. All residents received their own invitation inviting them to the special day.  The corridors were decorated with balloons and bunting leading to the Sports Hall that had been transformed into a function room.  The hall was decorated with flags, bunting, balloons and more.

All residents were able to take a seat, and watch the Wedding on the big screen whilst enjoying their sit down meal.  The menu was full of treats from Salmon, Chicken, and Beef followed by Scones with Jam and cream.  Following the meal residents were able to enjoy an ice cream, candyfloss and the amazing chocolate fountains.

Prince Charles (impersonator) also stopped by for a visit in the afternoon! Residents took the opportunity to have their photograph taken with him, and their friends.  All residents received a commemorative mug filled with chocolates and wrapped in cellophane.  In true Wedding style we couldn’t end the day there, and moved onto the evening celebrations.

Street and Flamenco dancers performed along with the hired Compere who entertained the audience in between the group performances with his wit and ukulele.  The evening performance was a huge success and residents were on their feet cheering for more.
