Yarl’s Wood Celebrates the Queens Jubilee…..

On 5 June 2012 staff and residents came together at Yarl’s Wood IRC to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee. After lengthy planning and preparation by Activities team members Amy and Evonne the Sports Hall was transformed into the best Street Party in Town.

The Sports Hall was lined with tables lavishly decorated in red, white and blue. The Hall was decorated with bunting, balloons and flags. The Hall was unrecognisable and definitely had the wow factor.
All residents were welcomed to the event by the Royal Footmen, meet and greet high impact comedians, who really put on a royal show.
Residents then selected their meal from the delicious hot buffet, and were shown to their seats for even more treats. They received union jack party hats and glasses to add to the occasion.  Many joined in the celebration by having their faces painted with jubilee themed designs.  Many had also designed their own Jubilee T shirts in Arts and Crafts to wear on the day.
Local singer Nataya performed throughout the meal, and residents danced the afternoon away with her. There was even time for a Jubilee themed cupcake or two, Ice cream, candy floss, and some of the delicious chocolate fountain!

But the celebrations did not end there; residents were able to have photographs with the performers, and their friends.  Then in the evening the theme of the day continued with a meal in a basket followed by scones with jam and cream.

To top of a fantastic day the evening performance began. All residents received popcorn and refreshments, and a commemorative Jubilee mug for them to keep.  Street dance group Elements performed, followed by the Black Eagles acrobats. Both were excellent and certainly put on a show, everyone looked on in amazement.
The whole event was incredible, and the feedback received from residents made it all worthwhile.
